I love the horse's face, it's really great.
I don't know much about horse anatomy, but the neck looks really thick to me and the body really short (judging from where the feet are place behind the guy), but that just could be me. I tend to think horses look kinda funny. You already know about the feet being on separate planes. The tack looks good so far, but again, I don't know much about that.
The axe looks great, but I might soften it up a bit to match the softness of the rest of the detailing, unless you bring the detailing up to the sharpness of the blade. One or the other, but it looks great.
I looooooove the left hand (closest to the axe head) it's great, but it looks disconnected from the arm behind it. I think the angle of that arm is off a bit.
The other hand is great too, love the subtle details of the fingers, the only thing about that one is I don't think we'd see the rest of the thumb coming around the pole. I think we may see a bump of it between the index and middle finger on the bottom. Know what I mean? Like when you make a fist. I'm not 100% sure but the upper arms may be a little short, but I really like the drapery on them. I totally need to learn to do drapery. >_<
I love the lacing on the tights and the pose of his legs. You might nudge the back foot down a bit more, it looks like it's a bit shorter than the other. We'd probably see the knee on both legs. The clothes are great, I'd watch the way it falls on his chest and waist with him twisting the way he is. Neck is looking pretty nice, good strong muscles and tendons and what ever showing, very manly
Here's some faces (features, not necessarily expression) I like (ironically enough they're all rather similar)

Also, some actors that have nice faces you could perchance reference:
Hugh Laurie
Ioan Gruffudd
Russel Crowe
Gerard Butler
Jeffery Dean Morgan
Of course I don't mean copy one of their faces, but they have nice features and such.
Annnnnnyhow, I hope some of that is helpful. I can't WAIT to see it finished! Frankly I can't wait until I can do this stuff as well as you! You'll have to give me all sorts of tips and lessons!!!!!! lol! Great job Kristy!

Thanks so much for all the critique and people to reference!
Almost all of it was helpful, I can't wait to be finished either, I just hope it turns out well!

Actually looking again I can see one thing, apologies if it has been pointed out already - the breast harness on the horse. (Don't know what you would really call it)
On our side the strap goes up at quite an angle over the shoulder to attach at the pommel of the saddle. The corresponding strap on the other side seems to be more relaxed - it makes it look as if it has been fitted a bit lopsided. I think you'd have to alter that far side strap and make it come up a little higher to match the one on our side. I hope that makes sense... I just tried to do a redline but I don't have my tablet and I couldn't even draw the line properly with my mouse XD
I can't believe how much detail you have in this already though! It will look amazing when finished
