Perhaps take the smudge tool and smudge it toward the neck, if that makes sense. Or you could make thin pieces of blue on the inside.

It shows that you're putting very much effort into this. I see the problem with the mane. Try to make it a bit less less ordered... break the highlight pattern with some darker areas to make it look less like a thick solid bunch of hair. And also dare to make the hair go to several different directions. I've seen your ref, you just have to trust on what you see there.
I cannot really explain what I mean, so I made a few alterations in your drawing with my non-existent digital drawing skills. I took liberty to change a couple of other smaller details too. I'm not sure if you'll even notice them. Anyway, I'm sorry I made it all blur and horrible but I really don't have any good enough digital program and I cannot draw digitally. But I hope this: [link] helps you to see, what I mean. Once again, if you don't wish this image to be online, I'll take it off immediately when you ask. I just found this the best way to describe what you could try.
